Today many are celebrating the death of Osama Bin Laden. Finally there is some closure to the 9-11 attacks for family, friends and colleagues that were lost that day, but we hold back our elation because we know deep in our hearts that the fight is not over. The threat of radical Islam still exists and we must all remain vigilant to the threat of retailation at home and abroad.
I, as a 9-11 first responder, thank first our military—all the brave men and women who had the courage to” fight the fight” and to those that have lost their lives in the battle to keep us safe. Second, I would like to thank George W.Bush for beginning the pursuit in Afghanistan, for keeping us safe here in the U.S. and as some forget in the last half of his Presidency in the continued pursuit in Pakistan against the wishes of many including the Pakistani leadership. And for the those interrogations at Gitmo. And lastly a thank you to Pres.Obama for CONTINUING the Bush strategy of both (Pakistan Pursuit & Gitmo). (BTW,It would have been classy to give your “usual shout-out” to GW!)
There is plenty of work to do as we move on from today, when once again the flags will be put away and the celebration dies down. If we are truly united we must remain so ….everyday should be September 12th!
